Duties and Responsibilities

•Provide education to patients on the application, use, care, and expected outcome for orthopaedic durable medical equipment (DME) products as indicated by the physician instructions and manufacturer recommendations. Applies, fits, adjusts and removes braces, casts, splints and orthotic devices. Instruct patients, families, caregivers or co-workers in the proper care and maintenance of cast, splints and orthotic devices. Train patients to ambulate using assistive device. Educate all providers and coworkers about casting, splinting and orthotic devices.

•Educate patients on insurance plans and provisions, financial responsibility, and collection of patient portion.

•Insure that all necessary documentation is obtained as it relates to payer requirements, standard operating procedures, and Carolina Orthopedic compliance program.

•Perform patient/customer scheduling, education, order processing, delivery, and courtesy call back.

•Actively promote and foster good relations interdepartmentally and with physician’s clinical and surgery center personnel, external case managers, payers, and suppliers.

•Track, maintain, and order durable medical equipment (DME)/Casting products for the location including inventory and equipment.

•Comply with all elements of HIPAA, Medicare, Medicaid, and other required programs.

•Minimal travel for training or short-term assignments.

•Local travel may be required for product delivery and pick-up.

•Educate physician on new and existing DME products, vendors and pricing.

•Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications

•BA/BS degree in Athletic Training, Exercise Sciences, or Kinesiology with a minimum of two (2) years related medical clinical experience.

•Licensed or Certified Athletic Trainer, Certified Orthotic Fitter, or Orthopaedic Technician preferred.

•Experience with the application of durable medical equipment (DME)/Casting required.

•Knowledge of basic human anatomy and techniques to align fractured bones or position body parts for proper casting; fracture healing and complications required.

•Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Micro Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.  Nextgen a plus.

•Ability to work with patients care  of all age groups.

•Must have strong medical terminology and anatomy knowledge, general understanding of insurance companies, the ability to handle multiple priorities, exceptional customer service skills, ability to work independently, good judgment and decision making skills.

Working Conditions

This position will be in a professional clinic environment.  This position will not and may not act independently.  There will not be any direct contact with the patient or perform any clinical duties.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Scribes are active and valuable members of their healthcare teams, providing real-time charting for physicians by shadowing them throughout their shifts and performing a variety of helpful tasks. As a scribe, you’ll gain rare clinical experiences that help you grow as a person and as a professional. Common duties include:

·  Recording the patient’s history and chief complaints

·  Transcribing physical exams

·  Recording diagnostic test results

· Preparing plans for follow-up care

Full-time scribes are expected to be available to work between 30-40 hours per week, while part-time scribes are expected to be available to work between 18–30 hours per week. Shifts are generally 8-10 hours long, but this may vary depending upon location.

Each shift, you’ll be assigned a doctor or physician assistant to work alongside. This means you’re in the room during each evaluation, documenting directly from the patient and provider conversation. And that makes you a valuable part of the healthcare revolution and the patient experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Highly motivated and experience-driven

· Pre-health track (pre-med, pre-PA, pre-nursing) preferred

· At least 18 years old and sophomore status or higher

· Preferred GPA of 2.8+

· No clinical experience required to apply

· Proficient in English; secondary languages required at some locations

REQUIREMENTS:

· Follow and observe a physician for extended periods of time

· Lift approximately 25 pounds

· Handle a stressful and fast-paced environment
