United Way of Horry County Named Nonprofit of the Month

United Way of Horry County was named the first Nonprofit of the Month award sponsored by South Atlantic Bank.

United Way of Horry County has served the community since 1973. The organization joined the chamber in 2006.

United Way fights for the health, education and financial stability of every person in our community. They raise funds that support programs, projects and other nonprofit partners that positively impact Horry County.

Each year, the United Way has a handful of signature events.
United to Read – 150 volunteers read to first-grade classes across Horry County to celebrate reading and encourage literacy. 

Day of Caring – Hundreds of volunteers join together to complete service projects throughout the county. 

Caring for Kindergartners – A partnership with Coastal Carolina University where student-athletes read to kindergartners across the county showing the importance of giving and volunteerism.

United to Learn – A tutoring and mentoring program coordinated with Horry County Schools, this program matches volunteers with students who meet weekly.

May Day Bags – A collection of toiletries, stationery and small gifts given to Horry County senior shut-ins.

About Nonprofit of the Month

Each month, Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce announces a nonprofit of the month. This special promotion sponsored by South Atlantic Bank recognizes an outstanding nonprofit that is an investor with Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce. The organization displays a banner at their place of business for one month recognizing them as the Nonprofit of the Month. The honor was first awarded to United Way of Horry County in January 2020.
