The Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce marks this year’s Earth Day, Thursday, April 22, 2021, with the announcement that it has applied to become an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful Inc. and Keep South Carolina Beautiful, a division of PalmettoPride. Keep Myrtle Beach Beautiful (KMBB) is set to receive its official designation within the coming months. Once approved, KMBB will call on volunteers to participate in various litter removal, beautification and recycling events.
“We are excited to have a new affiliate, Keep Myrtle Beach Beautiful, joining the network. With a growing population and growing communities in the area, this is just the type of grassroots program needed. We look forward to the affiliate certification process and discovering the beautiful things volunteers will do in Myrtle Beach,” said Mallory Coffey, Keep South Carolina Beautiful state leader.
“Along with announcing the formation of Keep Myrtle Beach Beautiful, the chamber is celebrating Earth Day by encouraging businesses, residents and visitors across the Grand Strand to participate in beautification projects today and every day. If we all do our part - from picking up trash in our neighborhood to sprucing up our landscaping - we can make a big difference,” said Karen Riordan, MBACC president and CEO.
While the chamber awaits its official accreditation for the KMBB program, staff members continue to participate in various cleanup and restoration programs along the Grand Strand. On Wednesday, April 21, MBACC volunteers took part in an Adopt-A-Highway cleanup effort, removing litter along Kings Highway in Myrtle Beach from 17th Avenue South to Farrow Parkway. On Saturday, April 24, MBACC staff volunteers will remove litter from the green space adjacent to the chamber.
