The Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce (MBACC) and Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) announces the formation of an executive search committee tasked with overseeing the process of appointing the organization’s next president and CEO.
Leading the 10-person committee is Mike Hagg, who served HTC for nearly three decades in various roles, including 12 years as the CEO before retiring in 2022. Hagg brings extensive experience in both business and community leadership to the position of chair of the executive search committee. Beyond his work with HTC, he has contributed to numerous boards and committees, including Coastal Educational Foundation, Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, Myrtle Beach Regional Economic Development Authority, Myrtle Beach Sunrise Rotary Club, North Eastern (S.C.) Strategic Alliance, and South Carolina Telecommunications Broadband Association, among others.
Hagg has assembled a distinguished committee of community leaders and business professionals from across the region, representing various industries and institutions, to assist with the search.
The members of the executive search committee are:
Dr. Michael Benson, Matt Klugman and Bhumi Patel are current MBACC board members.
“The role of the president and CEO of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce and Convention and Visitors Bureau is pivotal in driving the region’s economic development, tourism initiatives and overall community growth. We are committed to finding a leader who not only brings a strategic vision but also, a deep understanding of the unique needs of the Grand Strand business community,” Hagg said.
With assistance from Matthew Metzger, MBACC Vice President of HR and Operations, the committee will issue requests for proposals (RFP) to executive search firms, followed by a review of proposals and a final selection of a firm.
The committee and search firm will then recruit, identify and vet top candidates with the goal of locating a well-balanced pool of qualified applicants to interview, review and ultimately hire from. The process is expected to take approximately three to four months, during which Tracy Conner will continue to serve as Interim President and CEO until a successor is appointed.
