The Funplex Myrtle Beach Welcomes its First Guests

On May 21, 2021, The FunPlex Myrtle Beach welcomed its first guest following a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the chamber.

Open daily and located just one block from the beach at 1405 North Ocean Boulevard between 14th and 15th Avenue, the amusement park offers a big punch in a compact footprint. Seven thrill rides (some for younger thrill-seekers and others for true adrenalin junkies) surround a walk-up bar and restaurant. Among those rides, there was a lot of excitement on opening day surrounding the new Fun in the Sun Roller Coaster. The unassuming track encircles the perimeter of the park and any kid or kid at heart sitting in the normal cars would find it enjoyable. However, two of the coaster cars are “hamster wheel cars” that spin in a circle on their own all while riders are speeding along the coaster track.

Another of its super cool rides, the Mach Fun, is the tallest, interactive 360-degree flying jet ride on the market, and the first-of-its-kind in North America. Unfortunately, the attraction is not open because its makers are in Italy and can’t travel to Myrtle Beach to finish assembly until travel restrictions are lifted.

At the center of the complex is the Off-the-Coast Beach Bar and Grill, which features signature food and drink options just steps from the beach. This two-sided, walkup bar and restaurant offer 13 domestic and local draft beers, exciting frozen drinks in souvenir cups, and traditional bar and seafood options. Their menu also has some amusement park favorites like funnel cake and a special Chicken and Waffle Cone Appetizer.

Take it easy at the bar and grill’s shaded seating area with a state-of-the-art pergola that automatically closes if rain showers start or automatically opens if a gust of wind comes through.

“Because this was such a new concept, we got to add some really cool elements that we believe our guests and the industry will love,” said Funplex CEO Brian Williams, who also placed an emphasis on the park’s safety. “Designed for families and thrill-seekers alike, The Funplex Myrtle Beach delivers a safe, fun, clean entertainment experience for everyone.”

The Funplex Myrtle Beach is following local, state, CDC and industry COVID-19 guidelines and best practices. Plus, the park will offer on-site security Thursday through Sunday starting at 4 p.m.

At night, the park will come alive with a light show after dark.

The park and restaurant are free to enter, attractions are individually priced, each requiring a set number of credits that can be loaded onto a FunCard in the amount of a guest’s choosing. Five different credit bundles are available at thefunplex.com saving guests up to 35 percent. Advance purchase and reservations are strongly recommended.
