August 5, 2024

Heavy rains are expected for the Myrtle Beach area as Tropical Storm Debby travels into our region. The National Weather Service in Wilmington, N.C. forecasts 16-20 inches of rain for portions of Horry and Georgetown counties and lifethreatening flash flooding could occur.

Gov. Henry McMaster declared a state of emergency ahead of the storm and Horry County moved to OPCON 2 on Monday. A flood watch is in effect starting Monday and continuing through Aug. 9 at 8 a.m.

S.C. Secretary of Transportation Justin Powell asks people to stay off the roads if travel is not absolutely necessary.

Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce has canceled all events through Aug. 9.
