Get to know Marlane

Tell us about your job position and some of your typical work tasks.
I am the director of communications and have the honor of working with our local media outlets and other community organizations to help share chamber news and events with our community.

Favorite food
I especially love seafood. While I am from the Carolinas, I spent many years along the Gulf Coast, but nothing compares to Calabash-style seafood and hushpuppies.

Favorite drink
Homemade sweet tea with lots of ice.

How do you give back to the community?
I am humbled to be a part of the team that organizes the Myrtle Beach Walk to End Alzheimer's, held at The Market Common each fall. This fundraiser and awareness event is especially near and dear to my heart as my grandfather passed from the disease.

What's your favorite thing to do in Myrtle Beach?
I've been coming to Myrtle Beach since I was a kid and of all my favorite things to do here, I most enjoy going deep-sea fishing. But I have to admit, I prefer to catch and release.

Best advice you ever received?
Be honest and admit your mistakes. I try to be a perfectionist, so it's hard when I make mistakes. But I try to remember that we are all human and we're gonna make missteps. The best thing is to admit it, fix it, apologize and try to move forward.

Tell us about your family/pets.
I am the proud mother of a son named Nate. He loves to swim and explore nature. His curiosity is boundless and I end up learning so much from him.
