Economic Development

Economic Development means business recruitment and retention, but it also means fostering innovation, developing a skilled workforce, community image and branding, and promoting a conducive business climate through good public policy. The chamber’s 2023 Legislative Priorities focus on the following economic development initiatives:

Support the revitalization of the downtown area in the City of Myrtle Beach

  • City leaders have undertaken an aggressive, focused campaign to make this area more family friendly and to drive private investment into the downtown area.

Opportunity Zones

  • We fully support municipalities working to take advantage of the federal Opportunity Zones program and encourage government agencies at the local, state and federal level to work to attract private investment to the Myrtle Beach area.

Support Direct Economic Development Investment

  • State and local investment in economic development agencies, including the MBREDC and NESA, is helping attract new and existing industries to the Myrtle Beach area. These organizations have a proven track record and are investing in innovative recruitment strategies.
