Get Storm Ready at Third Annual Hurricane Connection Forum on June 20
Free Event in Myrtle Beach’s Market Common to Take Place 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.—Hurricane season is upon us and now is the time to get prepared. To help the community know what to expect and how to best deal with a storm, a free forum will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2024. The third annual Hurricane Connection Forum takes place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Market Common at the Thomas C. Maeser Auditorium on the Horry-Georgetown Technical College - Grand Strand Campus, 950 Crabtree Ln., Myrtle Beach.
The event is presented by Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce (MBACC), Conway Chamber of Commerce, Little River Chamber of Commerce, Loris Chamber of Commerce and North Myrtle Beah Chamber of Commerce, and is sponsored by Santee Cooper and Southeastern Alliance Underwriters.
“The key to facing any storm lies in being prepared,” said Karen Riordan, MBACC President and CEO. “This open forum is crafted to empower our community members and business stakeholders, guaranteeing they have the necessary information and resources to confront hurricanes effectively. It’s crucial for all individuals in the Grand Strand area to develop a well-considered emergency plan, have the necessary supplies and stay informed about available support services ahead of any storm.”
The forum’s free expo will be open from 10 a.m. to noon. During this time, attendees can meet with representatives from various businesses and organizations that specialize in disaster preparedness and recovery.

From noon to 1 p.m., panel experts will share their insight about this year’s hurricane season, which runs June through Nov. 1, and answer audience questions. This year’s panelists are WPDE Meteorologist Ed Piotrowski, Sam Hodge, director of Horry County Emergency Management, and Michael Hesbach, executive director with Eastern South Carolina Chapter of the American Red Cross.
