Grand Strand Young Professionals (GSYP) announced it received a 2020 Truist Spirit Award, which includes a $5,000 donation for Substitutes for Santa. The organization was selected for the award as part of the Lighthouse Project, a long-standing BB&T now Truist tradition that allows teammates to support local nonprofit organizations on projects to address critical community needs

Horry-Georgetown Technical College recognized three exceptional employees at the South Carolina Technical Education Association’s (SCTEA) Annual Conference. HGTC’s Educator of the Year Award winners recognized at the SCTEA Conference include:

  • Beth Havens, director of Student Development, in the administrator category,
  • Jeanne Bennett, Professor of Human Services, in the faculty category, and
  • Jill Stone, administrative assistant for Academics, in the staff category.  

The award recipients were nominated by their peers for superior leadership in their departments, their quality work ethic, and their community involvement.

HGTC announced that Professor Stan Greenawalt received the statewide award as the A. Wade Martin Innovator of the Year 2021. A notable authority in the field of information systems, internet and firewall security, Professor Stanton Greenawalt has been a member of the HGTC Computer Technology faculty since August 2015.  He has brought a diverse background in academia, private sector management, and military command to the classroom.  His distinguished 25+-year U.S. Navy career encompassed leadership positions as combat systems director, training director, chief of staff and Commanding and Executive Officer for two squadrons and the USS WASP Aircraft Carrier.

Myrtle Beach Pelicans were honored with a Community Award at the S.C. Governor's Conference on Tourism & Travel. The award recognizes their commitment to serve the Grand Strand through appointments to boards and committees, fundraising efforts and opening their parking lot to host food drives, COVID-19 testing and flu-shot clinics.

Fans of the Myrtle Beach International Airport have rallied behind the South Carolina airport, enabling MYR to secure the title “Best Small Airport” in the 2021 USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards. The annual USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice awards highlight the best of the best in the travel industry and nominees in all categories were chosen editorially by a panel of experts in partnership with 10Best editors, while the top 10 winners were determined by popular vote.

Eric Hunt, owner of Myrtle Beach Wedding Officiant, has been selected as a 2021 ­­winner of The Knot Best of Weddings, an accolade representing the highest- and most-rated wedding professionals as reviewed by real couples, their families and wedding guests on The Knot, a leading wedding planning and registry brand and app. This is the fourth consecutive year Myrtle Beach Wedding Officiant has been named a winner of The Knot Best of Weddings awards.
