Organizers of the Beach ’n Chili Fest and the World Championship Chili Cookoff (WCCC) are looking for the best community chili cooks in Myrtle Beach to compete in the 2nd Annual Community Chili Challenge.

In cooperation with the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, the WCCC will host the Community Cup Challenge, a charitable event that will involve up to 25 teams and feature a People’s Choice judging process. The event will coincide with the 55th Annual WCCC, which will draw over 200 of the best chili teams in the world to Myrtle Beach for a chili fest and competition like no other. The WCCC, which is the culmination of a year-long chili cookoff season, is hosted by the International Chili Society (ICS). Planned for Sept. 23-25, 2022, this long-standing chili championship will award almost $100,000 in cash and prizes to professional teams for the best Traditional Red, Chili Verde, Homestyle Chili and Salsa recipes.

Last year’s event brought in more than 18,000 and featured fun for the entire family, including the Family Fun Zone, the Shelby Car Show and endless amounts of chili sampling with almost 500 flavors to choose from.

The Community Cup Challenge is set to kick things off on Friday, Sept. 23 at Burroughs & Chapin Pavilion Place, located at 812 N Ocean Blvd. Admission into the event is FREE. Sampling tickets and other event attractions are available for purchase at eatgreatchili.com.

The Community Cup is open to any Myrtle Beach area business or organization with a charitable mindset and great chili recipe. The 2021 winning team, Benjamin’s Bakery & Coffee Roasters, led by Chef Danny Smith, won a $2,500 donation to their charity of choice: Champion Autism Network.

“The Community Cup Challenge allows our residents to participate in the exciting Beach ’n Chili Fest cookoff activities all while giving back to local charities. This is a good example of how festivals in our area give all of us a way to come out and have fun,” said Karen Riordan, President and CEO of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce and Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Registration for the Community Cup Challenge is open now and will remain open until all 25 spots are filled. For complete details and to submit your application simply go to https://woobox.com/3dvkrj. Event organizers will select team entries on a first come, first served basis until all 25 competition slots are filled. There will be no fee required for the teams to compete. The grand prize will be $2,500, along with $1,000 for second and $500 for third – all going to the winning teams’ charity of choice.
