Habitat for Humanity is a global nonprofit with a vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Habitat for Humanity of Horry County was founded in 1990.
Since July 2020, the organization has served 153 families and expects to serve a total of 162 by the end of the fiscal year in June. The nonprofit engaged 3,000 volunteers who have logged 22,500 volunteer hours.
Habitat for Humanity of Horry County partners with individuals and families helping them achieve their goal of homeownership. On the path to homeownership are education sessions on personal finances, mortgages, home maintenance and more.
Habitat also has a ReStore which accepts donations of some building supplies, appliances, furniture and housewares which are then sold at discounted prices.
Each month, Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce announces a nonprofit of the month. This special promotion sponsored by South Atlantic Bank recognizes an outstanding nonprofit that is an investor with Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce. The organization displays a banner at their place of business for one month recognizing them as the Nonprofit of the Month.
