The Long Bay Symphony is our September Nonprofit of the Month sponsored by South Atlantic Bank.
The Long Bay Symphony is a professional symphony that enhances the cultural and artistic environment of the Grand Strand area by providing the highest quality musical performances and programs which entertain and educate patrons of all ages.
The symphony was founded in 1987 by Dr. Diana Swanner-Scroggins, a local music storeowner.
Charles Jones Evans is the current music director and conductor. He's held the position since 1996.
Executive director Shannon Farro also chairs Supporting Arts Together, a group established by Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce designed to connect members of the arts community with the chamber and each other.
Their next performance is this Sunday, Sept. 26 called Opposite Sides of the Spectrum. The program features oboist James Austin Smith and will highlight the strings and the percussion — both separately and together. Both in-person and virtual tickets are available.
