The Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce (MBACC) and Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) is pleased to announce that its President and CEO, Karen Riordan, has signed Destinations International’s Allyship Commitment Letter. The open letter was released on June 29, 2022, and can be viewed at DestinationsInternational.org/Allyship-Letter.

Riordan joins more than 115 fellow CVB leaders from across the country who have signed the letter, which is designed to showcase collective support of colleagues from underrepresented communities. In addition, the letter affirms the need to accelerate the pace of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts within the tourism industry.

“As a member of Destinations International, the global trade association for CVBs, the Myrtle Beach Area CVB stands behind this letter as a catalyst for extensive dialogue to better understand all dimensions of DEI,” Riordan said. “Taking full advantage of the diverse strengths, experiences and perspectives of every single person in our industry is proven to build stronger destinations. In addition, inclusive organizations dramatically outperform their counterparts.”

The MBACC and CVB DEI Council, now in its sixth year, works to enhance community awareness about the advantages of creating and sustaining diverse and inclusive businesses and workplace environments. The council’s next interactive educational session, titled “DEI Vocabulary Basics,” is scheduled for Sept. 20.
