New Directions of Horry County Named July Nonprofit of the Month

New Directions of Horry County was awarded our July Nonprofit of the Month sponsored by South Atlantic Bank.  

New Directions was established in 2013 as a collaborative effort to better assist the homeless and their families. The nonprofit is the largest provider of shelter services in Horry County. It also operates the addiction recovery outreach initiative, a peer support program serving Horry and Georgetown counties.

They stand prepared to assist those in crisis, connecting them with resources and the support of an empowering community. While the problems associated with homelessness can’t be solved overnight or by a single organization, they know that together, in a collaborative effort, they can make a difference. New Directions continues to expand to serve the needs of the community. Each year, the nonprofit serves more than 1,000 people and 50 families.

Their signature fundraising event, Compassion Through Fashion, will be held Aug. 20 at the Hall at St. John's Greek Orthodox Church. It's a one-of-a-kind fashion show featuring outfits made with at least 90% repurposed or recycled materials all designed by locals and modeled on a runway.

All proceeds benefit New Directions of Horry County and their efforts to help people recover from crises of homelessness, poverty, and addiction. In addition to the fashion show, guests can enjoy silent auction, a mystery pull wine wall, entertainment, complimentary beer, cocktails, & hors d’oeuvres.
