A message from Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Karen Riordan following the April 1, 2021, decision by City of Myrtle Beach officials to lift the mask mandate placed on businesses:

“The Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce supports the City of Myrtle Beach’s extension of the COVID-19 emergency declaration through April and their latest executive order that lifts the mask mandate for our area businesses. While we’re encouraging businesses to continue to follow CDC health and safety guidelines, discontinuing the mandate on masks allows organizations to make their own decisions based on their particular circumstances. Many will continue to require face coverings as will the chamber. Others may decide that masks are not needed because they have plexiglass barriers or open-air spaces. We’re also encouraging everyone in the community to receive the vaccination. Newly released data from the CDC is finding that those who have been vaccinated do not carry and can not spread the virus. Here in South Carolina, everyone 16 and older is eligible to get their shot and health officials report that more than two million doses have already been given statewide. At the same time, we’re sharing with visitors the message to travel responsibly by bringing along their mask when they’re out and about exploring all the fun-filled things to do here at the beach. It’s a special time along our 60 miles of coastline when families and friends are reconnecting and enjoying those special moments that we’ve longed for this past year.”
