The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, Palmetto Pride and organizations across the state will be participated in litter cleanup events across the state’s waterways on Sept. 16, 2023, for the 34th Annual Beach Sweep/River Sweep.

It’s also World Cleanup Day - so let’s pick up some trash!

According to SCDNR officials, this is South Carolina’s largest litter removal event focused on the state’s waterways – beaches, rivers, lakes, creeks and wetlands. Since 1988, more than 150,000 South Carolinians have volunteered to cleanup waterways across the state and they have removed over 1,200 tons of trash.

PLAN YOUR OWN CLEANUP

CONTACT US FOR SUPPLIES

While Keep Myrtle Beach Beautiful does not have an organized event planned for Sept. 16, we are providing supplies to individuals and groups who like to clean up an area of the beach or local waterway such as Withers Swash Park in Myrtle Beach. To make arrangements to obtain trash bags or to rent out easy-reach grabbers in advance, contact Yaritza Tinoco at KMBB@visitmyrtlebeach.com.

City and county officials do a wonderful job at removing litter from our beaches and public areas, but their crews are often unable to reach every location and remove all items such as cigarette butts and straws. This is where volunteers like you can help. Taking the time to cleaning up a local park or public beach access area, including the parking lot, can make a big difference in keeping our beaches, ocean and waterways clean.
