EVOLVE Series

MBACC’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council presents the Educated Voices On Leading and Valuing Equity (EVOLVE) series. This series provides an in-depth look at diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace. The EVOLVE Series is back for 2024 as a four-part series.

The series is for anyone looking to expand their knowledge of concepts related to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) and will explore the opportunities created by inclusive workplaces.

Dr. Franklin Ellis, associate dean and director of the Center for Inclusive Communities at Furman University, is the instructor for all four parts. He is a Florence, S.C., native and graduate of Coastal Carolina University with more than 20 years’ experience in higher education. Ellis earned a doctorate in marriage and family therapy from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Westwood, Calif.

Registration costs $50 per person and includes attendance at all workshops which will run from 9 to 11 a.m. and will be held in the boardroom at the chamber. Individual session registration is not available. Membership with the chamber is not required to participate.

The sessions are as follows:

• June 6: Cultural Wealth

• Sept. 21: From Managing Diversity to Leveraging Difference

• Nov. 21: Inclusive Hiring Practices

SHRM recertification provider badge

Participants will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the fourth session. Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce is recognized by SHRM to offer Professional Development Credits (PDCs) for SHRM-CP® or SHRM-SCP® recertification activities. The EVOLVE Series provides two professional development credits per session completed.

EVOLVE Series: DEI Vocabulary Basics (Sept. 20, 2022) – Bob Wallace, Webster University breaks down the many terms used when discussing diversity, equity and inclusion.

EVOLVE Series: Why Identity Markers and Pronouns Matter (June 16, 2022) – Amanda Masterpaul leads a discussion on identity markers and pronouns covering the basics of what they are and how recognizing and respecting people’s identities fosters inclusivity in the workplace.

EVOLVE Series: Autism & Inclusive Workplaces (April 6, 2022) - Becky Large is joined by Greg Rosen, Frank Espinal and Lara Ceisel for a panel discussion on what employers should consider and expect when hiring and working with people with autism.

EVOLVE Series: Diversity as a Busines Model (Aug. 31, 2021) – Erika White, CDE of Pennoni Associates, discusses why DEI is good for business and how supplier diversity can be part of a business strategy. View Resources

Building a Diverse Workforce and Talent Pool (July 27, 2021) – This session, delivered by AMS in partnership with Bank of America, looks at the benefits of diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Download Slides

DEI Strategies at Work (Nov. 19, 2020) – Atiya Stokes-Brown, vice president for diversity, equity and inclusion at Coastal Carolina University, looks at strategies to implement diversity, equity and inclusion policies in the workplace.

Microaggressions (Oct. 15, 2020) – Atiya Stokes-Brown, vice president for diversity, equity and inclusion at Coastal Carolina University, guides us in this session on microaggressions.

Unconscious and Implicit Bias (Sept. 17, 2020) – Bob Wallace led attendees through discussions on unconscious and implicit bias. Download slides.

Generations at Work (Aug. 20, 2020) – Eileen Soisson explores the key characteristics of the generations in today’s workforce and provides practical solutions for resolving conflicts between the generations. Download slides

Diversity Equity and Inclusion 101 (July 29, 2020) – Educated Voices On Leading and Valuing Equity Series presented by MBACC’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Council.
